great managers

Not Every Person Needs To Become a Manager

Somewhere along the line, the world decided that being a high performer should equal a promotion to manager. Not every person needs to become OR wants to become a manager.

Being a great individual contributor and being a great manager are VASTLY different. We should have a conversation about growing people left to right - allowing them to excel, without management being the ONLY option for growth.

-Great managers think about the entire team. They are not into control. They are not interested in dominating people and hoarding information. They manage everyone differently, according to their strengths and skills.

-Great managers create a vision with clearly established goals. They empower people on their team to achieve the goals in the way that works best for each employee. (Afterall, 2+2=4 but so does 3+1 and 4+0 and -2 +6.)

-Great managers handle conflict immediately or when the time is right. They minimize conflict by having great communication skills and getting to know their employees' likes, wants, pet peeves, personality styles, and communication styles.

-Great managers WANT to see their team grow They want to take things off of their plate to empower others to grow their skills and meet their career goals.
